For all of his adult life, Gene L. Hamilton has made his living
strictly from sales of his art- limited edition serigraphs,
paintings, and in more recent years, cartoons and caricatures. On the
fine art side, Gene
and his wife, Carlie, have focused on such subjects as Lake Life,
Landscapes, Flower Gardens, and even Food, in the case of Carlie's
earliest efforts.
Gene's favorite cartoonists and caricaturists include Virgil Partch,
E. Segar, Mort Drucker, Charles Addams, Hirschfield, and many
others.
Gene does caricatures for corporations, associations, private
parties, and individuals. He teaches cartooning in the
Gifted/Talented Program of the Des Moines Public School System, as
well as other educational workshops and programs. He has worked as a
humorous illustrator designing for publications and apparel.
Gene has had a side career as a character actor for local t.v.,
radio, and print ads and had his own cable t.v. show,
The Art Roamer Round-Up T.V. Show. He most recently was Jack Nicholson's photo double in the Alexander Payne film About Schmidt.
